The mission of America’s Healthcare Challenge has been to be a non-partisan fact finder and truth teller on the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid and other items related to healthcare. As an issue impacting all of us, regardless of our politics, it needs to be taken seriously. Healthcare spending is the number one driver of the national debt, the biggest check most American’s write each month, and is squeezing the bottom lines of businesses large and small. Until the monster known as the United States healthcare delivery system is tackled, do not expect the economy to turn around.
This week’s episodes focused on the facts. In my monologue titled Medicare matters, I lay out the case how one federal program is threatening the future fiscal sustainability of this nation, and future generations pursuit of happiness. Why should you care about Medicare if you are a young person? Simple, because you are paying for it, and will be for the rest of your life if nothing is done.
The problem with this program is it is highly popular amongst senior citizens who are a powerful voting block. Therefore, it is difficult for politicians from both sides to make any changes without being attacked for “cutting” Medicare. Any politician who says they will preserve Medicare without any changes is not being truthful. The program, if it grows at the same pace it currently is, will consume all of our federal spending by the 2040’s.
The filter was off this week. An adult conversation about entitlement spending, reaction from the Vice-Presidential debate and plenty of calls were featured on this week’s episode of America’s healthcare Challenge.
