Avoiding March Madness

Now that the super bowl is behind us the mood for sports enthusiasts around this part of the country shifts to college basketball, and before you know it someone will be organizing a bracket pool in your office.   One of my favorite slides to show audiences across the country is a bracket outlining how…

Health Reform Explained

Is This A Joke?

In another attempt to extinguish a smoldering fire burning the Administration, the President went on the defensive again by issuing a one year extension of existing insurance plans to those losing coverage under the Affordable Care Act.  That is if the state insurance commissioners and health insurance companies want to dust off old policies that they have scrapped for the new healthcare reform law.

Tracking the Hat

By John Rathouz aka John the Caddie
Co-host of America’s Healthcare Challenge

What’s one way to begin to explain healthcare reform and hint at the challenges facing America?  Wear a HealthReformExplained.com hat, that’s what I do.  For over five months now, I’ve been donning the white flat-bill emblazoned with a red and blue logo.  The hat was a gift to me from Sean McGuire, the leader of this just cause, originally made to be worn during the US Open golf tournament in Philadelphia this past June.

Veto Power

The children have returned and have wasted little time in getting the country involved in another political staring match.  Do not act surprised because we have seen this happen before and the only people who suffer are those associated with the middle class and small business.  Both sides deserve equal blame and this political exercise is once again over the Continuing Resolution that was a result of no real action during the fiscal cliff and comparable events.

The Heat Is On

The only thing hotter this week than the weather is a printing press at a federal office building.  The White House is stepping up its efforts to promote the law and states are coming up with creative advertising strategies to enroll people in the new exchanges this fall.  Meanwhile, a mini regulation dam burst July, 2013 with several pages of critical regulations being released since the White House quietly announced the one year delay of the employer mandate over the 4th of July recess.
